I really feel that without the dedication of so many others outside of Spain, flamenco would go away. So, I sometimes wonder, as a woman yes, as a privileged white woman, if one could say the same about oriental dance. I can not help but become furious when I think of how oriental dance or almost any female dance in some cases is and has always been considered in the light of Era of religious fundamentalism dominated by men and present in many corners of the world.

If there was a drummer present, so much the better. At my wedding, I was my own dancer. I hired a group specializing in Arabic music and danced with my family and friends, who were not all Arabs. One of the most annoying events for me when I go out to an Arabic restaurant is the part of the evening where the white belly dancer comes out.
