When was the last time you came to take a class with us? Earlier this year. From time to time, I revisit the technique of Salimpour. I studied with Suhaila extensively for 4 years, 20 years ago. This last visit taught me that I am no longer a dancer Salimpour. The aesthetic is too special for me so I will probably not come back. I respect what Suhaila has accomplished and how she has remained strong in those years.
In the meantime, I believe that in the diaspora, the dance will be in good hands. The Millennials a label I hate to use but that's what we have have much less time and income than Generation X's younger dancers like me, or the Generation X and Baby dancers Boomer who taught me. They are much less likely to take a dance class just because it sounds funny or different. They want to put their money where their values are.
Back and joint pain can join the dance because basic choreography and most choreographies of belly dancing consist of a movement of each small muscle and it can support our body weight so that it does not harm To no one. The level 1 class will be very simple, the students without background can easily join. But for those students, who have been in belly dance class for a while, will recognize how to use their own muscles, and can move to attend the class of Level 2 to improve the efficiency and strength of their muscles.
